Rev. Benjamin Parker Truitt, pastor of the First Methodist Protestant Church, Washington, formerly for several years pastor of the M.P. Church of Denton, died at four o'clock on Tuesday morning at a Baltimore hospital. Rev. Mr. Truitt had been ill for 17 months, but his condition was not considered serious until 7 weeks ago, when he was taken to Baltimore for an operation. Mr. Truitt was born September 5, 1861, in Wicomico county, Md. After being graduated from St. John's College, Annapolis, in 1887, he entered the Maryland Annual Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church. He filled several pulpits in Maryland towns before he was appointed to the First Methodist Protestant Church of Washington. He leaves a widow, three children - Charles Lewis, Alma Wright, and Benjamin Burton Truitt - and one sister - Miss Edna Truitt. The body was taken to Washington Tuesday afternoon, and the funeral was held at First Church Thursday afternoon. The services were in charge of Rev. Dr. J.M. Sheridan, of Baltimore, president of the Maryland Annual Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church, who also delivered the eulogy. Others assisted in the services were Rev. Dr. T. F. Tagg, editor of the Methodist Protestant Church; Rev. Dr. Thomas O. Crouse, of Mount Royal Avenue Methodist Protestant Church; Revs. J.B. McLaughlin, J.M. Gill and Hez Swem. The pallbearers were Rev. E. C. Makosky, of Lafayette Avenue Methodist Protestant Church, Baltimore; T. Pliny Fisher, of Denton; and Revs. R. L. Shipley, J.M. Gill, J.B. McLaughlin and G. Q. Bacchus, all of Washington."
